FIELDBASE

A four hour drive west of Dar Es Salaam is the busy city of Morogoro, home to some 300, 000 inhabitants and Raleigh Internationals field base in Tanzania. Located at the foot of the Uluguru mountains, field base is a hub where the various teams who look after the operations, communications, logistics and medical needs of the expedition work from. The team is made up of a mixture of permanent and volunteer staff from different countries, with each member bringing a unique set of skills from their experiences. Under the guidance of the country director and country program manager, different departments are responsible for training, transportation, finance, equipment, medicine, marketing and youth development. On a normal day in field base there are around 30 people working on various programs and the team split their time between field base and being on the road. All training is carried out there or at one of the training centers nearby, so all staff pass by field base before heading out to their allocated project sites throughout Tanzania.
